Woodbine, NJ Man, John Dayton IV, Hasn’t Been Seen Since January of 2022

November 7, 2023 — Underground Mysteries

John H. Dayton, IV, 57, went missing in Woodbine, Cape May County, New Jersey on January 25, 2022.  On the day of his disappearance, he went to pick up his paycheck at Smokey’s Meat Market, on the 400th block of Washington Avenue, where he worked as a butcher.  He had been living across the street from the meat market in a boarding house, but he reportedly did not return home after picking up his paycheck.  He did not have a mobile device or a vehicle at the time of his disappearance, and he was last seen on foot.

There was an unconfirmed sighting of Dayton somewhere between January 31 and February 2, 2022 on Franklin Street in Woodbine.

Law Enforcement officials have determined that Dayton has neither accessed any state benefits nor worked under his social security number since his disappearance.

Born in March of 1966, Dayton is an avid deer hunter and outdoorsman who is known to frequent several business establishments in Vineland, Cumberland County.  He also has ties to Cape May Court House, Rosenhayn, and Newfield, all of Southern New Jersey.  At the time of his disappearance, he frequented an unspecified Catholic Church in Woodbine for help with food and clothing.

Dayton is a Caucasian male with dark brown or black hair and brown eyes.  He is 5’9″ in height, and he weighed about 185 pounds when he was last seen.  He does not have any tattoos, and his front teeth are capped.  His personality is described by his loved ones as charming and outgoing.

Some records refer to Dayton as “JH Dayton” or “John H Dayton, III”.
