September 7, 2024; updated on February 28, 2026 — Underground Mysteries

Amber (Motsch) Pierce / Krems went missing in Chicago, Illinois on or around December 17, 2002 when she was 21 years old. She is considered an unreported missing person at the time I am writing this, as she does not have a police report filed on her disappearance, nor is she in the NamUs database. I added her case to my database for unreported underrepresented missing people.  One of Amber’s relatives had informed me about her being a missing person, and at the time of this article, there has not been any awareness made online in her disappearance. Hopefully this will change upon this publication its circulation. I have now created the first missing-person profile on her disappearance.

Amber’s family member and friend helped me piece together information on her life, and I researched many archives and public databases for information.

Born on October 14, 1981, Amber Motsch would be 42 years old in present day at the time of this publication (September 2024). She may also use the surnames Pierce (her married name) or Krems. She may have even reverted back to her maiden name, Motsch.

Amber grew up in Chicago, Illinois. She attended a youth camp in Warrenville, Illinois in the late 1990s, which is around the time when she got pregnant with her first child. After she was released from the youth camp, while still pregnant, she entered a facility for single mothers in Northern Chicago. This place helped her get set up with a residence and employment. After this, she got married in 1998. She had her second child in an unknown year, possibly after 1998.

Around the time of Amber’s disappearance, she may have worked for a nonprofit agency called Chicago Fire.

It is unknown where Amber was living at the time of her disappearance. She had previously been staying with relatives, but after the entire household became displaced from their residence in October of 2002, they lost track of her whereabouts. An arrest is shown in Amber’s name from December 17, 2002, which marks the very last trace of her on paper that I can find.

Amber is a Caucasian female with red / auburn / strawberry blonde hair, which may have been dyed a different color at the time of her disappearance. She may have had some freckles on her face. Her height is estimated to be about 5’2″ or 5’3″, according to her friend. Her friend has also informed me that her eye color is blue. It is unknown if she has any unique dental characteristics. Amber’s friend has stated that she has an unspecified tattoo on an unspecified hand. She believes that the tattoo may contain small lettering. Amber’s friend stated that she often wore her hair half up (in a half ponytail) and pulled back. I have included photos of Amber in this article.

Amber’s friend informed me that she loves to draw and is an “amazing artist.” She stated that Amber also loves to write poetry and loves the band “The Doors” as well as other rock music bands. This friend also states that “[Amber] was really sweet and talked common sense.” It is believed Amber was close to her father and his mother (her paternal grandmother).

If you have any information on Amber’s disappearance, please contact the Chicago Police Department or your local police department and mention this article, since there is no missing persons report on her case. You could also reach out to me here, and I can submit the tip for you.
