Renee Martine Lamanna went missing following a psychiatric hospital stay on January 8, 1994 in Somers Point, Atlantic County, New Jersey.  At the time of her disappearance, Lamanna was a very intelligent 35-year-old woman who spoke several languages and was pursuing her studies in nuclear medicine technology. 

Lamanna suffered a mental crisis while in Queens, New York City, New York, prior to her hospital stay.  She was reportedly unable to cope with the ending of her relationship with her boyfriend, a cab driver from Afghan, who immigrated to the USA. She was transported to Queens Center Psychiatric Hospital for a psychiatric emergency involving high levels of anxiety and paranoia. She reportedly may have also had anorexia. After her hospital release, she went to her sister’s residence, near 2500 Wesley Avenue, Ocean City, New Jersey. After eating dinner with her sister, she left the house running at 7:00 p.m., despite the freezing weather. It is believed that she took her navy blue robe with her. Later that night, around 9:00 p.m., she was seen at the now-defunct Waterfront Bar on Bay Avenue in Somers Point. The robe she had been carrying was found in close proximity to the bar. It is suspected that she may have been near Central Avenue in Ocean City, as bloodhound dogs had traced her scent to this area.
