James Patrick Crawford, also known as “Jimmy” or “Jamie”, is an unreported missing person who vanished from Sacramento, California in either 2017 or 2018, when he was 35 or 36 years old. His exact missing date is unknown, because he gradually became estranged from his family due to his perpetual state of homelessness. Crawford suffers from schizophrenia, a mental condition that produces disoriented thoughts and oftentimes paranoia. Due to lack of resources in the United States to support safe living arrangements for those suffering with schizophrenia, Crawford was ensnared in a loop within the mental health system and eventually became homeless by default. His family desperately tried to help him, which proved to be a fruitless endeavor, as his unclear mental status interfered with the reasoning skills necessary to realize he required help. The anguish his family is facing not being privy to his whereabouts represents the shortcomings of our current mental health system in the United States.
Although Crawford’s family members have been searching for him for about four or five years, they have been unsuccessful at locating him. His mother last found him living in Sacramento, California in 2017 or 2018, and she searches the area for him every year. Crawford’s family believes that he is living somewhere near the American River, which runs through central Sacramento. Some landmarks nearby the river include Discovery Park, the California State Railroad Museum, Sutter’s Landing Regional Park, Capitol Casino, and Sacramento Habitat for Humanity. A large homeless population exists along this area. The city Sacramento is the capital of the state of California and is located in Sacramento County, which is in the north-central region of the state.
Aside from Sacramento, Crawford also has ties to Carmichael, Antelope, San Bernardino, Elk Grove, and Galt, all of California. I have plotted these areas on a map below, to represent areas in which he is familiar:
Born on May 4, 1982 in San Bernardino, California, Crawford would now be 39 years old. He is known to be a sweet, caring man. He is Caucasian with brown hair and brown eyes. Currently, I am not informed of his height and last known weight, but I will update this article accordingly if and when I learn this information.
Sacramento Police Department has been informed of Crawford’s disappearance; however, an official missing person report has not been filed.
I will be circulating this story across the nation, targeting Sacramento County and its outskirts. As of the time that I am writing this article, there are no other news articles on his disappearance.
