The public is urged to assist in identifying a Hispanic man who passed away in Fresno nearly four decades ago.
FRESNO, Calif. — A newly released set of facial reconstruction images is shining a spotlight on a decades-old mystery in Fresno, California, as authorities continue their efforts to identify an unidentified man who was found alive on September 30, 1986, but tragically passed away in the hospital. The Hispanic man, approximately 5’4″ tall with brown hair and brown eyes, was discovered in a state of distress in Fresno, but despite medical efforts, he did not survive. At the time of his death, his face was recognizable, yet his identity has remained a mystery.
In an effort to assist in helping discover his identity, I created new facial reconstruction images to show how the man may have appeared in life. The goal is not only to raise awareness but also to potentially spark recognition from the public that could help bring his name to light.
Reconstructing how he may have looked is a way of humanizing this case and keeping it in the public’s eye. This endeavor is part of an ongoing effort to assist authorities in generating clues to unidentified person cases across the world.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office recently released his post-mortem photos to the NamUs missing person database in hopes that it could help generate the crucial tip that will lead to answers for this long-unsolved case. I hope that the life-like images will add to the spread of this story, in hopes that a relative or old friend, neighbor, or peer will see them and recognize him.
This John Doe’s remains were cremated in 1986, so identification via DNA is not a viable option at this time. It is very difficult and costly to extract DNA from cremated remains, and sometimes it cannot be done at all.
