Tatiana Tarasovna Byazrova Lupach / Lupacha / Lupaca is a Latvian mother who vanished suddenly under mysterious circumstances on January 25, 1999 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York when she was 27 years old. She had arrived to the United States on a visitation Visa in 1998 and was looking to become a legal immigrant and bring her immediate family there once she gained citizenship.
Tatiana Lupach may spell her first name as Tatiana, Tatyana, Tatjana, or another variation. She may also have shortened her name, as many immigrants do, to Tanya, Tania, or Tanja. Her middle name is Tarasovna, and her maiden name is Byazrova. Lupach is her married name, which is written as “Лупач” in Latvian. Her first name is written as “Татьяна” in Russian.
On the day of her disappearance, Tatiana Lupach called her mother on the phone in the early morning. Later that day, her neighbors saw her getting into a white van, where she also loaded her possessions. Prior to this, she had been working as a nanny watching children in a Jewish household in Brooklyn, and she accompanied the family on a short trip to Miami-Dade County, Florida. Her daughter believes that it is possible that she grew to love Miami and wanted to return to there, and whoever picked her up in the white van may have offered her a fake job in Miami as a lure to kidnap her.
Prior to Tatiana Lupach’s disappearance, she had been renting a room in a house in the southern area of Brooklyn. She had been sending letters to her family in Latvia and calling them on the telephone regularly. Keeping in close contact with her loved ones was something that Tatana prioritized.
Tatiana Lupach had worked several nanny and cleaning jobs in Brooklyn before her disappearance, but her family does not know any of her old employers. She was working not only for survival but also in hopes of saving money to build her life in the United States. She had also been taking English courses around the time of her disappearance. In the last days before her disappearance, she started changing how she wrote in her letters to her family, by discussing religion and saying how her family will be “blessed”. Her daughter states that she had never been very religious or discussed religion in her letters before her last few letters. She had also cut her hair very short into a bob-cut before her disappearance, which was unusual for her, as she always kept her hair long.
Tatiana Lupach’s daughter contacted her mother’s childhood best friend, who stated that Tatiana told her that she worked in an unknown bar in Brighton Beach (“Little Odesasa”) in Brooklyn and that a Japanese man offered her an assistant position in Miami, Florida. She also stated that she was going to travel to Miami for an interview. Her family did not learn about this interview until after her disappearance, as it is speculated that Tatiana’s parents would have disagreed and urged her not to trust this man.
Tatiana Lupach was scheduled to get her fingerprinting done for her immigration documents, something that she was working very diligently on prior to her disappearance; however, she never showed up to the fingerprinting appointment. This did raise alarm for Tatiana’s family, as she was so eager to continue with the move to the United States and to eventually bring her immediate family there.
It is unknown if Tatiana Lupach ever made it to Miami, or if that was even the location the person/people in the white van intended to take her. There has been no trace of her since her disappearance.
Mysterious phone calls were received in Tatiana Lupach’s family’s residence in Latvia, as documented in her daughter’s retelling of events.
Seven years after Tatiana Lupach’s disappearance, in 2007, her husband received a letter from a man named Walter who spoke Russian and was living in the United States. He did not provide a last name at the time. Walter told Tatiana’s husband that he knew her and that he wanted to know about her life and whereabouts. Walter stated that he attempted to visit her in 1999 at the Brooklyn residence where she had been residing before her disappearance, but the owner of the property reportedly informed him that she had not heard from Tatiana since the day she left. The owner reportedly handed Walter her documents and remaining belongings. Walter spoke with Tatiana’s daughter on the phone in 2011, and he said that he will search for her, but only if she came to New York herself. He promised Tatiana’s daughter that he would mail them the documents given to him by the property owner, but they never received anything in the mail.
Tatiana Lupach was born in Russia on July 12, 1971 in a town called Vladikavkaz. She got married in Latvia, where she lived before immigrating to the United States. She is Osetian and speaks native Russian. She can be described as a 5’4″ Caucasian female with wavy black hair and green eyes. She was about 120 pounds with a slim build when she was last seen. She also has scars on her abdomen. In present day, she would be 52 years old.
Since Tatiana Lupach’s disappearance, she has been legally declared deceased. Her family is holding onto hope that she can be located. They also speculate that due to her high level of kindness and generosity, she may have been kidnapped or preyed upon. Tatiana’s daughter created a Facebook page to help in her search, where she shares a wealth of information on her disappearance. If you knew Tatiana Lupach(a) prior to disappearance, please contact authorities, as any clues can help in her search. Even seemingly small clues can be significant. Whether she was your neighbor, friend, coworker, employee, or someone you remember from the community, please share details with the authorities and/or her family members through the Facebook page Messenger, as her daughter is still trying to fill in gaps in her timeline.
