Update: I was able to discover that William Brooks had passed away, unbeknownst to his loved ones at the time. May be rest in peace. I informed his loved ones.

William “Bill” Clyde Brooks is an unreported missing person who went missing from his loved ones on July 13, 1977. He went missing from society, though, in about 1992, when he was about 44 years old.

William’s mother attempted to report him missing in 1977, but a report was not filed internally at that time. His sister was able to have a police report filed years later, and his case was assigned a detective. However, his case has not yet made it to the governmental database for missing people. I added him to my missing person database.

William did not usually use his middle name (Clyde) and would oftentimes write his name as William Bill Brooks. (“Bill” is his nickname, but he would write it as his middle name at times.) Also, William’s family called him “William”, and his friends usually called him “Bill”.

Upon researching William’s disappearance, I learned that he was incarcerated from 1988 to 1992 in Texas. His loved ones still do not know what happened to him after his prison release. I was unable to find any paper trail of his existence after 1992.

Born on July 3, 1948, William spent his childhood in Summerville, South Carolina. One of his hobbies was playing the guitar. He served in the Army (PFC E-3) from 1970 to 1971. He briefly stayed in New Jersey in 1977, while he worked for a company called Man Power, but he and his family moved back to Summerville, South Carolina later that year. It appears as though William was attempting to re-establish his life in South Carolina, when he suddenly vanished after his loved one dropped him off at a store one day. None of his loved ones have seen or heard from him since 1977. It is uncertain why he vanished or how he ended up in Texas, where he was eventually incarcerated. If alive today, William would be 77 years old. William’s mother sadly passed away, never knowing what happened to her son. His sister has been diligently searching for him and remains hopeful.

William can be described as a mixed race Native American and Caucasian male who is about 6’1″ to 6’7″ in height with dark brown hair and hazel or blue eyes. (Note: William’s family believes that he is about 6’1″ in height, but his arrest record lists him as 6’6″.)

If you have any information on William Brooks’ disappearance, please reach out to Sargent Evans in the Detectives Division at the North Charleston Police Department. He can be reached at 843-740-2800.
