Update on June 7, 2024: Phyllis Kahn has been located alive, and she has been reconnected with her family!
Phyllis Kahn is a senior citizen whose whereabouts has been unknown since about 2013, when she was 75 years old. At the time of her disappearance, she was living a transient lifestyle in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Kahn is an unreported missing person, which means a police report has not been filed in her disappearance, even though her family members have tried to report her missing.
I am helping recreate Kahn’s timeline by piecing together information as well as helping to search for her. There is hope that she may still be in the Toronto area, as implied in several “letter-to-the-editor” news articles I found online. These articles were written by a woman named Phyllis Kahn, who speaks of homelessness and poverty. In February of 2019, an article titled, “Left Out in the Cold,” was published to the National Library of Medicine. Phyllis Kahn sent in her “letter-to-the-editor” response to that article, and her response was subsequently shared to another news article, written in May of 2019. It is likely that this author is the same Phyllis Kahn as the missing woman, as there are not many people with her exact name in Toronto. The author talks about being a senior citizen experiencing homelessness, which was Kahn’s known perpetual predicament before she went missing.
Kahn is a Caucasian, brown-eyed female whose height and weight were about 5’3″ or 5’4″ and 140 pounds, respectively, when she was last seen. Keep in mind that her weight may have changed and her height may have diminished with age. Her hair was long and dark brown when she was last seen, but it most likely would have grayed by now. She had cosmetic surgery on her nose when she was in her teens or early twenties.
Born in 1938 to Nathan Kahn and Claire Solomon, Kahn was raised in the United States in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with her younger brother. After graduating high school, she attended Temple University. She later moved to British Columbia in Canada to be with her significant other, with whom she had her only child.
When Kahn was last seen, she did not have a passport, and she was living in homeless shelters.
Kahn did have her driver’s license at some point, but she stopped driving several decades ago. It is unknown if she resumed driving.
Kahn’s loved ones just want to know that she is safe. I do not have an updated photo of her, so I aged her face from her college yearbook photo.
